FCPIO AWARDS & RECOGNITION

FCPIO members are recognized for outstanding public service and work above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a public information officer.

2017 Award Winners:

  • Stephen Thompson, 6th Judicial Circuit, for handling the extensive media coverage of the Bollea v. Gawker and State v. Curtis Reeves cases.
  • Jorge Labarga, Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, for lifetime achievement in advancing the cause of court communications both in his career as a judge and in his leadership implementing the Florida State Courts' 2016 Statewide Communications Plan.
  • Karen Levey, 9th Judicial Circuit, for handling the extensive media coverage of State v. Casey Anthony and for providing innovative leadership in court communications and social media.
  • Michelle Kennedy, 18th Judicial Circuit, for handling the extensive media coverage in the State v. George Zimmerman case.
2007 Award Winners:
  • Debbie Clements Thomas, 5th Judicial Circuit, for handling extensive media coverage in the case of State of Florida v. John E. Couey.
  • Eunice Sigler, 11th Judicial Circuit, for handling extensive media coverage in the case of State of Florida v. John E. Couey.
  • Christopher Stotz, 17th Judicial Circuit, for handling extensive media coverage in the Anna Nicole Smith cases.
  • Glen G. Rubin, 4th District Court of Appeal, for handling extensive media coverage in the Anna Nicole Smith cases.
  • Craig Waters, Florida Supreme Court, for lifetime achievement in advancing the cause of court communications and founding FCPIO after it was originally proposed in 2002 by the Florida Supreme Court's task force on emergency preparedness, known today as the Wells Commission.
